Nottingham Industrial Museum is always looking for new and fun ways for our visitors and supporters to engage with the objects in our collection. So, when we heard Culture Themes was running an event called Museum GIF Day (#MusGIF) we knew we had to take part.
In case you don’t know GIFs, or to give them their full name Graphics Interchange Format files, are moving web images. This year we decided to stick with images taken from videos. But when we consider our collection, clock faces, engines, bike wheels and so on, the possibilities for animated GIFS are endless.
It seems only right that our first GIF should celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Basford Beam Engine steaming up at the Museum.
We love the random readings on the oscilloscope in our Communications Gallery.
Kids big and small treasure our model railway.
And at the end of the day, who doesn’t like to let off a bit of steam?
Indy, our official resident museum mouser and mascot, regularly patrols the Gin Yard after dark and insisted on a starring role in our new venture.
Why don’t you subscribe to our new Giphy channel, so that you can be the first to see the new GIFs as we create them? What should be our next GIF? Drop us a line with your suggestions or a GIF present.
